Clearly, you couldn't get a more famous bunch of speakers on this ultra-famous fall off a cliff-thing about our ghastly economic situation. Who wasn't here? Paul Krugman, Bill Bradley, George Soros, Niall Ferguson, Robin Wells, and Nouriel Roubini ("Dr. Doom"). Announced by Robert Silvers in his majestic intellectual generosity and moderated by Jeff Madrick, who had repeatedly to hold up a sheet of paper saying to the participants:"Time's Up," for their opening remarks, this was an explosive and fascinating collective exercise in what in the hell are we doing,  and going to do about it all.

The interchange between Ferguson and Krugman was -- as you might expect -- the hottest, with Krugman doing his impish and delightful putdowns and heavenward glances at...
