Catherine Temerson

TRANSLATES: French

Catherine Temerson was brought up bilingually in French and English and has advanced degrees from Harvard and New York University. She has worked in film and theater, taught language and literature, authored books in French, and translated fiction and non-fiction books, plays, interviews, essays, and screenplays. Her most recent translations include Elie Wiesel’s "The Sonderberg Case" (Knopf), "Rashi" (Nextbook) and "A Mad Desire to Dance" (Knopf), Amin Maalouf’s "Origins" (FSG, awarded a grant by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy), Florence Noiville's "Isaac B. Singer, A Life" (FSG) and Hiner Saleem’s "My Father’s Rifle: A Childhood in Kurdistan" (FSG). Her translation of "The Shadows of Ghadames" by Joëlle Stolz received a Batchelder Award and was on the IBBY Honour List 2006 for the quality of the translation.
