Distinguished Professor of English, French, and Comparative Literature, Graduate School, CUNY. Recent books include Surprised in Translation, Henry James: an Illustrated Life, Glorious Eccentrics: Modernist Women Painting and Writing. Caws also Edited of Yale Anthology of Twentieth-Century French Poetry, and was a senior editor of the Harper Collins World Reader. She has written many books on the relations between art and text, and anthologies of poets and theory.
