Daniela Gioseffi is an American Book Award winning author of eleven books of poetry and prose worldwide from major and university presses in English, translated into Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Serbo-Croation, etc. Her first book of poems, EGGS IN THE LAKE, contained poems which won her a New York State Council for the Arts grant in poetry, and was published by BOA Editions: Rochester, NY, 1979. Her second and third collections, WORD WOUNDS and WATER FLOWERS, and GOING ON were published by VIA Folios@ Purdue U, and her next, SYMBIOSIS, 2002, was an e-book from Rattappallax Press: NY. She’s published widely in major literary magazines, on and off line, from The Cortland Review to The Paris Review, Chelsea, Antaeus, The Nation, Prairie Schooner, Poetry East, Hungry Mind, American Book Review to name a few. Daniela is editor/publisher of www.PoetsUSA.com --an archive of contemporary poetry, interviews, commentary, and graphics. In 2007, she won JOHN CIARDI AWARD FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT IN POETRY. Her renowned anthology, WOMEN ON WAR: INTERNATIONAL WRITINGS, prose and poetry, (Touchstone/Simon & Schuster) was reissued in a new edition by The Feminist Press: City University of NY, 2003. Daniela has given hundreds of readings and talks throughout the United States and Europe and been heard on NPR and the BBC among many radio and television stations. She was chosen as a finalist for the Yale Series of Younger poets by Stanley Kunitz and, a finalist for the Pittsburgh University Poetry Series by Muriel Rukeyser, both in the 1970’s. Her first novel, a feminist satire, THE GREAT AMERICAN BELLY(Doubleday/Dell:NY & New English Library: London, 1979) was optioned for a screenplay by Michael Christofer, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, for Warner Bros. Gioseffi has taught Creative Writing and World Literature at various institutions around the Metropolitan area, i.e. New York University, Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, Long Island University, Pace University and The School of Visual Arts. For many years she has taught Creative Writing, both fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. She published ON PREJUDICE: A Global Perspective (Anchor/Doubleday, 1993) with an award winning fifty page introduction by the author and annotations on selections from world literature of poetry and prose. She won the PEN SYNDICATED FICTION AWARD in 1990, for her short story, “Daffodil Dollars,” aired on "The Sound of Words", NPR. The story is included in her collection of short stories: IN BED WITH THE EXOTIC ENEMY, Avisson Books, Greensboro: NC 1995. Her fiction appears in KALEIDESCOPE: STORIES OF THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, Oxford University Press, 1993, and in many anthologies from other major presses, i.e. Viking, Harper Collins, Faber & Faber, Penguin, Doubleday. Professor Gioseffi has won a LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD from The Association of Italian American Educators, 2003. Her verse has been etched in marble on a wall of PENN Station, near that of Walt Whitman and William Carlos Williams. In 2006, she appeared on THE POET AND THE POEM, a nationally syndicated radio show produced by The Library of Congress and The National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. Her latest book, 2007, is BLOOD AUTUMN, Autunno di sangue, translated by Elisa Biagini of Florence, Luigic Bonaffini, Ned Condini, Luigi Fontanella, and Irene Marchigiani was published at The Calandra Institute at the Graduate Center of The City University of New York. She has been featured at The Miami International Book Fair, The Barcelona International Book Fair, The Conference on Global Education, The Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, The Peoples Poetry Festival of Poets House, and was creator and producer of THE FIRST BROOKLYN BRIDGE POETRY WALK, 1772, with David Amram as Pied Piper, and with a grant from The Creative Artists Pubilc Service Program of The New York State Council for the Arts.
