Meena Alexander’s six volumes of poetry include *Quickly Changing River* (forthcoming January 2008);* Raw Silk* and*Illiterate Heart* (Winner of the PEN Open Book Award) all published by TriQuarterly Books/ Northwestern University Press. She is the author of the memoir *Fault Lines* (selected as one of Publishers Weekly’s Best Books of the Year); the book of essays and poems *Shock of Arrival: Reflections on Postcolonial Experience*; editor of *Indian Love Poems*. Much of her work is concerned with migration and its impact on the writer's subjectivity, and with the sometimes violent events that compel people to cross borders. Born in India, brought up there and in Sudan, eduated in England, she is Distinguished Professor of English at Hunter College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York .
