Sallie Bingham
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Born in Kentucky, educated in the East, and now living in Northern New Mexico, I began life early as a poet and playwright--befoe I knew what those terms meant--and, probably most rewarding, as a director of elementary school productions of Shakespeare. I cut the plays down to manageable size, especially the soliloquies. After college, I began publishing regularly--books, and short stories in magazines--and have continued that to this day; my most recent novel, "Nick of Time", set in the Santa Fe dance world, is a finalist for the New Mexico Book Award. I have contributed to three philantropic projects: The Kentucky Foundation for Women, which supports feminist artists in that state; The Women's Project and Productions, in New York, which produces women playwrights; and the Sallie Bingham Archive for Women's History and Papers, at Duke University in North Carolina. I have three sons and five grandchildren.
