Zack Rogow


TRANSLATES: French

Zack Rogow's sixth book of poems, The Number Before Infinity, will be published by Scarlet Tanager Books in 2008. His previous collections of poetry include Greatest Hits, 1979–2001 (Pudding House Publications, 2002), The Selfsame Planet (Mayapple Press, 1999), and A Preview of the Dream (Gull Books, 1985). He is the editor of a new anthology of American poetry, The Face of Poetry (University of California Press, 2005). His poems have appeared in a wide range of magazines, from American Poetry Review to Switched-On Gutenberg.

Zack translates French literature and was a cowinner of the PEN / Book of the Month Club translation award for Earthlight by André Breton. He also won a Bay Area Book Reviewers Award for his translation of George Sand's novel Horace. His translation of Colette's novel Green Wheat was nominated for the PEN / Book of the Month Club translation award and a Northern California Book Award in translation.

Zack's essays and reviews have appeared in the New York Times Book Review, AWP Writer's Chronicle, the San Francisco Chronicle, Poets & Writers Magazine, and other publications. He cofounded and for a time coordinated UC Berkeley's Lunch Poems Reading Series. From 2006–7 he served as editor and artistic director of TWO LINES: World Writing in Translation, an annual anthology of international literature.
