TRANSLATES: German

David Dollenmayer is a literary translator and professor of German at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts.  He is the author of The Berlin Novels of Alfred Döblin (1988) and co-author with Thomas Hansen of Neue Horizonte: A First Course in German Language and Culture (7th edition, 2008).  He has published translations of works by Bertolt Brecht (Conversations in Exile), Elias and Veza Canetti (Dearest Georg: The Letters of Elias, Veza, and Georges Canetti), Peter Stephan Jungk (Die Reise über den Hudson), Michael Kleeberg (The King of Corsica), Anna Mitgutsch (House of Childhood), Perikles Monioudis (Im Äther – In the Ether), Mietek Pemper (The Road to Rescue: The Untold Story of Schindler’s List), Hansjörg Schertenleib (A Happy Man), and Moses Rosenkranz (Childhood: An Autobiographical Fragment).  The latter was awarded the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator's Prize in 2008.   He is currently at work on a translation of Andreas Bernard, The History of the Elevator, as well as, with Susanne Even, a bilingual young adult novel.
