Alex Ladd is a native speaker of Brazilian Portuguese and has translated Nelson Rodrigues' Life As It Is (Host Publications) and The Asphalt Kiss (Nova Fronteiras) , and Nestor Capoeira's The Little Capoeira Book (North Atlantic Books). He has also translated the lyrics for Beleza Tropical II and Tom Zé's Fabrication Defect, compilations of Brazilian music released by David Byrne.
