John Taylor

Born in Des Moines in 1952, John Taylor has lived in France since 1977.
He is the author of five books of short prose and poetry, with a sixth book, "If Night is Falling," forthcoming from The Bitter Oleander Press in early 2012. Taylor's writings have been translated into French, Greek, Italian, Slovene, Polish, and Dutch.
As a critic specialized in French Literature, he has written the three-volume "Paths to Contemporary French Literature" (2004, 2007, 2011), a vast critical panorama of poetry and prose in France today. He writes the "Poetry Today" column in the Antioch Review and has long been a regular contributor to the Times Literary Supplement. He also often contributes to the Yale Review, the Michigan Quarterly Review, Poetry Wales, and Context,.
Taylor has also been active as a translator and has won grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Sonia Raiziss Charitable Foundation for his projects. He has recently translated books by Philippe Jaccottet, Pierre-Albert Jourdan, and Jacques Dupin.
