Roses in a Forest (poem)

ROSES IN A FOREST

A woman took some plots of earth
About six inches wide, declaring
These enchanted circles
To represent the woods inside her home.
In these she placed some bulbs
And nurtured them
Like children, bestowing food
And water till they grew.
She left, spurred on by dreams
Or poverty. A lilac tapped
Against the window sill
And entered, embraced by the rose.
