 Off the Shelf

Greetings
Posted By: Luke Epplin

Welcome. This week I'll be attending twelve events at the PEN World Voice festival. I'm going to focus largely on literature from the Spanish and Portuguese, and thus have selected events that have at least one participant from a country that speaks one of these languages.

Tonight I'll be attending Green Thoughts: Writers on the Environment. The impressive line-up of speakers was supposed to include the Colombian writer Laura Restrepo, but alas, Restrepo has an untimely illness and won't be able to attend. (Full disclosure: I'm Laura Restrepo's editor at Nan A. Talese/Doubleday; I hope to interview Restrepo via email this week and post a portion of it here.) Nevertheless, I can't wait to hear what such luminaries as Marilynne Robinson and Salman Rushdie have to say on the subject.

More soon!
