Adam Michnik was born in Warsaw, Poland on October 17, 1946.
Michnik, a former dissident, historian, writer, lecturer and one of Poland’s leading journalists, has been the editor-in-chief of Gazeta Wyborcza, the first independent Polish daily newspaper, since its inception in 1989.
His books include Letters from Freedom: Post-Cold War Realities and Perspectives, Church and the Left, and Letters from Prison and Other Essays.
Adam Michnik was a participant in the 2006 World Voices Festival.
