Dany Laferrière was born in Haïti in 1953.
He is a novelist, essayist, poet, and journalist. His first novel, How to Make Love to a Negro Without Getting Tired, was adapted into a screenplay and earned a Genie Award nomination for best adapted screenplay in 1990. His other works include a collection of short stories, also adapted into a film, Heading South; and An Aroma of Coffee.
Laferrière divides his time between Montreal, Quebec, and Miami.
