Geert Lovink is a Dutch-Australian media theorist, net critic, and activist. He studied political science at the University of Amsterdam and holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne.
In 2004 he was appointed research professor at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and associate professor at the University of Amsterdam. He is also a professor in media theory at the European Graduate School.
Lovink is the founding director of the Institute of Network Cultures. His books include Dark Fiber (2002), Uncanny Networks (2002), My First Recession (2003), The Principle of Notworking (2005) and Zero Comments (2007). Late 2011, Polity Press will publish his critique of social media, Networks Without a Cause.
