Piotr Sommer is the author of over nine books of poetry, including Things to Translate (Bloodaxe 1991) and Continued (Wesleyan 2005). He is Editor-in-Chief of the Warsaw-based journal Literatura na swiecie (World Literature) and is a renowned translator of British and American poets, including Allen Ginsberg, Seamus Heaney, D.J. Enright, Frank O'Hara, Charles Reznikoff, John Ashbery, Kenneth Koch, John Berryman, Robert Lowell, and Derek Mahon.
His work “derives its force … from the way it subtly re-angles our sense of perspective, while occasionally gesturing towards a potentially numinous space” (Mark Ford).
He is currently a visiting professor at the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University of Rochester for the Spring 2011.
