Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Nonaka is the author of more than 10 books, including novels, illustrated essays, and translations for children's books.
Her first novel received the Shueisha New Face Literature Award, and her recent young adult book, Katyusha, was nominated for the Shogakukan Children's Culture Award for one of the top eight children's books in Japan in the past year.
