Sandra Smith
Sandra Smith was born and raised in New York City. As an undergraduate, she spent one year studying at the Sorbonne and fell in love with Paris, then returned to do a Master's Degree, in conjunction with NYU. She moved to the University of Cambridge to continue graduate research into the Surrealist Theater in France between the two World Wars, then began teaching 20th Century French Literature, Modern French Drama and Translation.

Sandra was elected a Senior Teaching Member of Robinson College, Cambridge in 2001 where she continues to teach French Literature and Language. She recently began doing professional translation. Suite française was the first book she translated and she has now been commissioned to translate several more of Irène Némirovsky’s works, as well as a biography and new translations of two classics.
