Harryette Mullen
Born in Florence, Alabama, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Harryette Mullen is both a poet and a scholar. She is the author of several books of poetry including Trimmings, S*PeRm**K*T, Muse & Drudge, and Sleeping with the Dictionary. The latter was nominated for a National Book Award, National Book Critics Circle Award, and Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Her varied and eclectic research interests include slave narratives, African American poetry, African and African American folklore, literature by writers of color and feminism.

She is a recipient of an artist grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts and a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation.
