Noah Baumbach is a writer and director. A Brooklyn native, he is the son of Georgia Brown, a former film critic for the Village Voice, and Jonathan Baumbach, a novelist and film critic.
His 1995 debut Kicking and Screaming premiered at the New York Film Festival and was met with critical acclaim. Baumbach followed with 1997's Mr. Jealousy and 2005's The Squid and the Whale. The latter garnered Baumbach an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay and two awards at the Sundance Film Festival. Baumbach's screenplay was voted the year's best by the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the National Board of Review.
Baumbach is also a contributer to the New Yorker magazine. He has been a commentator for the Criterion Collection and co-wrote the The Life Aquatic with Wes Anderson. His most recently released film is Margot at the Wedding.
