Binyavanga Wainaina
Binyavanga Wainaina is an author, journalist, and playwright from Nakuru in the Rift Valley.

He is the founding editor of Kwani?, the first literary magazine in East Africa since Transition Magazine. He is also the winner of the Caine Prize for African Writing for his short story “Discovering Home.” 

He has written for publications including The East African, National Geographic, The Sunday Times, Granta, The New York Times, and The Guardian. In 2003, Wainaina was given an award by the Kenya Publisher's Association in recognition of his services to Kenyan Literature.

He is presently a Writer-in-Residence at Union College in New York, where he is teaching and working on a novel.
