Juan de Recacoechea worked as a journalist in Europe for almost 20 years. After returning to Bolivia, he helped found its first state-run
television network, served as its general manager, and dedicated
himself to fiction writing.
Recacoechea is the author of seven novels. American Visa,
his first book to be translated into English, won Bolivia's National
Book Prize and is the country's top-selling novel in the past 15
years. It was also made into an award-winning film.
