Cynthia Ozick was born in New York City.
She is the author of over a dozen acclaimed works of fiction and nonfiction, including The Shawl, Heir to the Glimmering World, and The Din in the Head, which was a Los Angeles Times Favorite Book of the Year and a Times Book Review Editors’ Choice. Ozick’s work has been translated into thirteen languages worldwide.
She is the recipient of the National Books Critics Circle Award, and was a finalist for both the Pulitzer Prize and the Man Booker International Prize. She is also the winner of four O. Henry first prizes for her stories. In 2008, Ozick was awarded the PEN/Nabokov Award for consummate craftsmanship and enduring originality.
