Frederic Berthoff
I was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 1955, the son of Ann and Warner Berthoff. I moved to Massachusetts at age twelve and lived there on and off for the next twenty years before retiring to Key West. I write from federal prison in Kentucky where I am now fifteen years into a 21-year sentence received for cannabis trafficking in the District of Massachusetts. My writings, poetry and art have been published in over a dozen journals including most recently, Nerve Cowboy (Winter 2008) and Cadillac Cicatrix (Spring 2008) magazines. A daughter was born a month before my arrest and is now in the ninth grade. A star athlete and snow-boarder, she will receive my $25 Honorable Mention prize from PEN for her 15th birthday present.
