Fernando del Paso, a Mexican novelist, essayist, poet and painter, studied biology and economics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. After graduation, he released a collection of poetry, but it was not until the publication of his novel José Trigo (1966) that del Paso became recognized as a force in Spanish Literature. He has since published three acclaimed novels, Palinuro de México (1977), Noticias del Imperio (1987), and Linda 67: Historia de un crimen (1995).
He is the recipient of the 1966 Xavier Villaurrutia Award, the 1976 Mexico Novel Award, the 1982 Rómulo Gallegos Prize, the 1985 Best Novel Published in France Award (for Palinurus of Mexico), and the 2007 Juan Rulfo Prize.
