Nicole Brossard
Nicole Brossard was born in Montréal in 1943.

A poet, novelist and essayist, she has published more than 30 books.

She has won the Governor General award twice for her poetry, and Le Grand Prix International de Poésie de Trois-Rivières in 1989 and 1999. In 1991, she was honored with Le Prix Athanase-David for a lifetime of literary achievement. That same year she received the The Harbourfront Festival Prize. In 1994, she was made a member of l’Académie des Lettres du Québec.

Brossard’s work has been widely translated and anthologized, and has influenced a generation of poets and feminists. Cahier de roses & de civilisation (Notebook of Roses and Civilization), was shortlisted for the 2008 Griffin Poetry Prize.

Her most recent books areMobility of Light: The Poetry of Nicole Brossard (a bilingual edition) and Fences in Breathing.
