Vicki Cobb
Michael Gold
Vicki Cobb was born in New York City in 1938.

After early careers as a laboratory researcher and science teacher, she became a full-time writer of science books for children, beginning in 1972 with Science Experiments You Can Eat. Cobb is the author of more than 85 nonfiction books for children.

Among the awards and distinctions she has received are the New York Academy of Science Best Science Book of the Year Award; the Eve Gordon Award for contribution to Children’s Science Literature; the Washington Irving Children’s Choice Book Award, twice; the ALA Pick of the List; Outstanding Science Trade Books; Parents’ Choice; the ABA Pick of the List; and the SLMSSENY Award for Outstanding Contributions to Children’s Literature.

Light Action! Amazing Experiments in Optics
represents her life as both a writer and parent. It was coauthored with her son Josh Cobb, and illustrated by her son Theo Cobb, an optical engineer, artist, and art director.

Her latest titles include Where’s the Science Here? series; Sneakers, Junk Food, Fireworks; On Stage; and Harry Houdini: A Photographic Story of a Life.

Currently, she is becoming increasingly popular as a speaker to children and adults.
