Bernard Comment was born in Porrentruy, Switzerland in 1960.
He is a novelist, cultural critic, screenwriter, journalist, and translator, and the author of a dozen books. He also co-wrote four scripts with Alain Tanner (Fourbi; Requiem; Jonas et Lila à demain; and Paul s'en va), co-directed a fictional documentary (Le pied dans la fourmilière), has written for the theater, and worked in radio.
Comment is the recipient of many awards, including the Prix Antigone, and The Canton of Berne Prize, which he received in 2005 for Un Poisson hors de l'eau and for all of his collected works.
His books have been translated into six languages. In 1999, he was named Director of Drama at France Culture, and since 2004, he has directed the series
“Fiction & Co.,” published by Seuil. From 2004 to 2007, he was president of the novel’s commission of the Centre National du Livre.
Comment has given lectures and taken part in conferences in many European countries, as well as in Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Japan, Pakistan and the U.S. Triptyque de l'ongle, published in 2008, is Comment’s most recent book.
