Brian Evenson was born in Ames, Iowa in 1966.
He is the author of seven works of fiction, including The Wavering Knife, which won the IHG Award for best story collection, The Brotherhood of Mutilation, and most recently, The Open Curtain, which was an Edgar and IHG award finalist, and was among Time Out New York’s top books of 2006.
He has translated work by Christian Gailly, Jean Frémon and Jacques Jouet, and his translation of Claro’s Electric Flesh was a finalist for a French American Foundation Prize. He is also the recipient of an O. Henry Prize and a NEA fellowship.
Evenson has a novel, Last Days, and a new collection of stories, Fugue State, forthcoming in 2009.
He lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island, where he directs Brown University’s Literary Arts Program.
