Santiago Roncagliolo was born in Lima, Peru in 1975, and has lived in Mexico, Spain and Peru, where he worked at the Human Rights Commission. That experience led him to write the novel Red April and the nonfiction book The Fourth Sword, which is about the Shining Path terrorist group.
Roncagliolo was awarded the Alfaguara Prize in 2006 for Red April, which will be released by Pantheon in May 2009. He also wrote Pudor, now a motion picture in Spain.
Roncagliolo’s books have been translated into 13 languages in more than 30 countries, and his articles have appeared in several Hispanic newspapers and magazines. He has also translated authors such as Joyce Carol Oates and André Gide into Spanish.
