Sekou
Sekou (tha misfit) is a three-time National Poetry Slam champion.

He has performed his dynamic spoken word privately for the likes of Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Norman Lear, and Quincy Jones and been featured on such media outlets as ABC World News, MSNBC’s Hardball, HBO, Showtime, MTV, BET, as well as two national spoken word tours, including Declare Yourself, which registered over 1 million new voters.

An award-winning recording artist and music producer, Sekou completed his latest double CD Poetic License in 2008, an ambitious combination of spoken word and multi-genre musical landscapes.

He has also become nationally known as a “motivational poet,” working with such companies as the ACLU to deliver their in creative and impactful ways.

His play with Steven Connell, The Word Begins, premiered at the Signature Theater in Washington, D.C. and garnered 3 Helen Hayes Award nominations, and their latest collaboration, Night (in two parts), premiered this past summer with the Pasadena Pops Symphony Orchestra.
