Cole Swensen
Anthony Heyward
Cole Swensen was born in Kentfield, California in 1955.

She is the author of 12 books of poetry, most recently Ours (2008). Earlier volumes include a finalist for the National Book Award, and winners of the Iowa Poetry Prize, the San Francisco State Poetry Center Book Award, the National Poetry Series, and two Pushcart Prizes.

A 2007 Guggenheim fellow, Swensen is also a translator, and has published translations of books by Pierre Alferi, Olivier Cadiot, Suzanne Doppelt, Jean Fremon, and others. She is also the founder and editor of La Presse, an imprint of Fence Books that publishes contemporary French writing in translation.

She teaches in the Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa and co-directs, with Sarah Riggs, an annual summer translation seminar at Reid Hall in Paris.
