Norbert Gstrein was born in Tyrol, Austria in 1961.
He is the author of several highly acclaimed novels, including Die englischen Jahre (The English Years), recipient of the prestigious Alfred Döblin prize; Das Handwerk des Tötens, which won the Uwe Johnson prize; and Die Winter im Süden. The English Years was published in English translation in 2002.
Gstrein currently lives in Hamburg.
