Louis Begley
Bettina Strauss
Louis Begley, a novelist and retired lawyer, was born in Poland.

He is the author of 12 books including Wartime Lies, The Man Who Was Late, The Tremendous World I Have Inside My Head: Franz Kafka, as well as numerous essays and articles.

A National Book Award finalist, Begley’s prizes include The Irish Times’s Aer Lingus International Fiction Prize, the PEN/Ernest Hemingway Foundation Award, the Prix Médicis Étranger, and Jeanette-Schocken-Preis.

His novels have been translated into 15 languages and he served as the President of PEN American Center from 1993-1995.
