Armin Petras was born in 1964 in Meschede.
He relocated to the East Germany with his parents in 1969, where he studied directing in East Berlin. He has worked as an adaptor of film and literature, as well as a stage and artistic director.
Petras is the Artistic Director of the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin since 2006.
