Born in Leningrad, Tatyana Tolstaya comes from an old Russian family that includes the writers Leo and Alexei Tolstoy.
Tolstaya is a frequent contributor to The New York Review of Books and many of her short stories have been published in The New Yorker. She is the author of, most recently, The Slynx, a novel, and White Walls: The Collected Stories.
She lives in Moscow.
