James Franco, born April 19, 1978, is an American actor, director, screenwriter, film producer, and artist.
His first notable role was in the television series Freaks and Geeks, and he reached fame as Harry Osborn in the Spider-Man films. He has also appeared in the films Tristan & Isolde, Annapolis, Flyboys, and Nights in Rodanthe, among others. Franco recently starred in Pineapple Express, which he co-wrote, and played a prominent role in the biographical film Milk. He is currently working on the film Howl, which centers on the obscenity trial Allen Ginsberg faced after the publication of his poem.
Franco earned a Golden Globe for Best Actor and was nominated for an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in the biographical television film James Dean. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Pineapple Express. For his performance in Milk, Franco won the 2008 Independent Spirit Award in the category for Best Supporting Actor.
