Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1951, poet, publisher and professor Rafael Bordao has received numerous literary awards and enjoys a huge recognition. He earned his Doctorate from Columbia's University and is a member of the PEN Club Exiled Cuban writers (affiliated with the International PEN).
He has published several books of poems: Proyectura (1986) [Projecture]; Acrobacia del abandono (1988) [Acrobatics of the Abandonment]; El libro de las Interferencias (1995) [The Book of Interferences]; Escurriduras de la soledad (1995) [The Last Drop of Solitude]; Propinas para la Libertad (Poetry International Award "Poet in New York" 1997) [Tips for Freedom]; El lenguaje del ausente (1998) [The Language of the Absent]; Los descosidos labios del silencio (2000) [The Ripped Lips of Silence]; Los despojos del sueño (2002) [The Spoils of a Dream]; and Escurriduras de la soledad (1995) [The Last Drop of Solitude].
In the non-fiction department he has written: La revolucion de Castro: Un aborto perfumado (1999) [Castro's Revolution: A Perfumed Abortion]; and La sátira, la ironia y el carnaval literario en Leprosorio (Trilogía poética) de Reinaldo Arenas (2002) [The Satire, the Irony, and the Literary Carnaval in Leprosarium (Poetic Trilogy) by Reinaldo Arenas].
His poems have appeared in over 30 anthologies in Latin America, USA and Europa. His poetry has been translated into English, French, Portuguese, Italian and Hebrew. He is the director of the international Review Sinalefa (www.revistasinalefa.org). He has lectured in several institutions, among them Columbia, Montclaire, Saint Peter and Columbia's Zaestro. Currently he teaches Spanish and Hispanic Culture in New York.
