Rowan Ricardo Phillips was born in New York City and is the author of two forthcoming books: The Ground, a collection of poems, and When Blackness Rhymes with Blackness: Essays on African American Poetry. His poems have appeared in magazines such as The New Yorker, The New Republic, and The Kenyon Review.
He has translated Dante, and his translations of Catalan writers have appeared widely, most recently in The Review of Contemporary Fictionand the forthcoming Best European Fiction Anthology 2010.
He is an Assistant Professor in the English Department of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he also directs the Poetry Center.
