Clayton Eshleman is the author and translator of more than 25 books, including 14 collections of poetry.
His collection Conductors of the Pit included translations from Spanish and French from authors such as Breton, Rimbaud, Neruda, Césaire, and Artaud. Eshleman is the recipient of the National Book Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Landon Translation Prize, and a 2006 PEN Award for Poetry in Translation.
Eshleman is professor emeritus of English at Eastern Michigan University. His translation of The Complete Poetry: César Vallejo, A Bilingual Edition, with a foreword by Mario Vargas Llosa, was published in 2006.
