Richard Peck
Richard Peck's newest novel is A Season of Gifts ('09), third in the sequence starring his most popular character, Grandma Dowdel. The first, A Long Way from Chicago, was the 1999 Newbery silver medalist. The second, A Year Down Yonder, won the Newbery gold medal in 2001. His first novel, Don't Look and It Won't Hurt (1972), was filmed twenty years later as Gas, Food, Lodging. Two of his novels, A Year Down Yonder and The River Between Us, were National Book Award finalists.

He was the first children's writer to receive a National Humanities Medal, in the White House ceremony in 2002. His forthcoming title, in the fall of 2010, will be Three-Quarters Dead.
