FICTION
Hunger Mountain
The Howard Frank Mosher Short Fiction Prize awards a first prize of $1,000 and a publication in the Spring 2008 Issue of Hunger Mountain. Two honorable mentions receive $100 each. The award is judged by Wally Lamb, author of She's Come Undone and Oprah Book Club Selection I Know This Much Is True, and editor of the best-selling Couldn't Keep It To Myself. Entries must be original, written in English, and up to 10,000 words. There is a $15 reading fee.

TRANSLATION
American-Scandinavian Foundation Translation Prize
The ASF Translation Prize is offered annually by the Foundation for the best translation into English of poetry, fiction, drama, or literary prose by a Scandinavian author born after 1800. The award includes $2,000, publication in an issue of Scandinavian Review, and a bronze medallion. The Inger Sjöberg Award of $500 is given to the runner-up. For rules and instructions, write to the Foundation.

NONFICTION
Association for Asian Studies
The Joseph Levenson Book Prizes, of $1,500 each, are awarded annually to two outstanding scholarly works that further broaden an understanding of China. One award is given for books on China before 1900, and the other for books on twentieth-century China. A copy of each entry must be sent to each member of the appropriate committee. Write for additional information and addresses of prize committee members.

*Residencies refer to retreats, colonies, or other residences where writers may work undisturbed, and to which access is won by competitive application. Not listed as such are teacher-in-residence, playwriting-in-residence, or similar positions that entail academic responsibilities or oblige the writer to lead workshops, lectures, or residencies.
