Jorge Semprún
Jorge Semprún Jorge Semprún was born in Madrid, Spain in 1923.

During the Second World War he was arrested because of collaboration with the French resistance and deported to Buchenwald. In the 1950s and 60s he joined the opposition movement against Franco while living in Paris. From 1988 to 1991 he served as Minister of Culture in the government of Felipe González.

Semprún currently lives in Paris, where he is a member of the Académie Goncourt.
