Esmeralda Santiago
Esmeralda Santiago Esmeralda Santiago was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1948.

She is the author of the memoirs When I Was Puerto Rican, Almost a Woman, and The Turkish Lover, as well as the novel America’s Dream. In 2002, she won a Girl Scouts of America National Woman of Distinction Award.

Santiago has written for publications such as The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and The Christian Science Monitor.
