A NOTE ON MEMBERSHIP DUES
|
Some PEN Members have recently asked about our procedure regarding dues and Membership renewal. Member dues provide significant financial support and a crucial endorsement of PEN American Center that allows us to advocate on behalf of writers worldwide. Dues also help us secure grants from funding sources that require a show of support from PEN’s primary constituency, its fellowship of distinguished writers. The funds collected as dues help pay for PEN programs and Member activities, in addition to fulfilling our financial commitment to International PEN.
For the purposes of our records, your annual Membership begins on the day we enter your dues into our database. One year later, all those whose Membership comes up for renewal in that quarter will be sent a reminder, first by e-mail and then by postal mail. For example, if you pay your dues in January, February, or March of 2007, then you’ll receive an e-mail in mid-January 2008 reminding you to renew. If you do not respond to the e-mail, a postal reminder is mailed approximately a month later. By structuring the renewal cycle on financial quarters (rather than calendar months), PEN reduces administrative costs. In addition, if you renew your Membership online, you save us printing, postal, and mailing expenses.
Should you have any questions regarding your Membership in PEN, please feel free to write or call anytime.
