SUMMER WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

Summer Writing Institute begins the week of July 5, 2011 and ends the week of August 29, 2011.

Admitted students may chose to participate in July, August, or both.

Students participate in 10 hours of on-site programming each week:

• 4 hours of Writing Workshop (author Q&A, guided exercises, and critique with peers)
• 2 hours of Readers Group (facilitated reading/ discussion/ journaling circle with peers)
• 2 hours of Office Hours (revision and one-on-one work review with a writer-coach)
• 2 hours of Literary Expeditions (local trip related to literary craft and/or culture with peers)

With staff, students determine which days of the week to schedule these programs, and will use this customized schedule for the summer. Students with jobs, classes, or family duties are able to pursue them while being fully involved in the Institute.

Students will chose the right time for them for each part of the workshop:

• Writing Workshop: Friday afternoon or Saturday morning
• Readers Group: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday
• Office Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
• Literary Expeditions: Various

Applications from students are received and followed by interviews on a rolling basis, from April 1 through Friday, May 27. Students receive word of their acceptance, waitlist, or non-acceptance within 2 weeks of their interview.
