Paul Auster and Elizabeth Nunez hosted an evening of readings and discussion, saluting the winners of the 2005 PEN/Beyond Margins Award. Joining in the celebration were writers Esmeralda Santiago and Colin Channer.

Award-winning children's and young adult writers read from banned and challenged books to sound the alarm about a recent surge in attacks on books in schools and public libraries, where librarians have had to fight to keep the likes of Harry Potter, The Color Purple, Native Son, and Heather Has Two Mommies on the shelves and available to young readers. With Judy Blume, Deborah Hautzig, Robert Lipsyte, Walter Dean Myers, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, Peter Sís, and Rita Williams-Garcia.

Françoise Mouly moderates a conversation between graphic artists Art Spiegelman and Marjane Satrapi.  Art Spiegelman is one of the world’s best-known graphic artists and the recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for his renowned comic-book Maus: A Survivor’s Tale.  Marjane Satrapi is the author of the award-winning comic-books Persepolis 1 and Persepolis 2, depicting her youth during the Islamic Revolution.
