Martha Albrand Award for First Nonfiction
This award is no longer conferred.

In 2006, PEN American Center presented the final PEN/Martha Albrand Award for First Nonfiction for an American author's first-published book of general nonfiction, distinguished by qualities of literary and stylistic excellence. The $1,000 prize was made possible by bequest from the late PEN member and mystery writer Martha Albrand, who wished to call attention to first books of distinction.

Past winners: Nina Bernstein, Charles Seife, Eileen Welsome, Philip Gourevitch, Serge Schmemann, Sam Harris, Marjorie Williams, and Amy Butler Greenfield
