This September, PEN is launching a campaign in response to attacks on the press in the United States. This campaign addresses the explicit threats to bring treason or espionage charges against The New York Times and individual reporters as well as the larger climate of intimidation fostered by these threats.

Our first volley is the public release of a Petition for Press Freedom in the October 5 issue of The New York Review of Books. Please read this petition and add your name to our growing list of supporters. We plan to launch our first wave of actions—including delivering the petition to members of Congress—in the last week of September.
