This year’s PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature, held in NYC from May 4-10, 2015, is set to highlight contemporary literary cultures across the African continent. Nigerian-born novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will co-curate the Festival with Festival Director László Jakab Orsós, organizing a series of workshops, readings, performances, and conversations focusing on “the African diaspora, migration, as well as a range of topics that affect writers across the globe”. Festival Director László Jakab Orsós says, “Focusing on the African continent is an ambitious undertaking. We cannot, in one week-long Festival, even come close to presenting the entirety of the riveting literary landscapes throughout Africa, but we’re excited to present a select group of writers and artists who, I believe, will inspire New York audiences with their uncompromising and brilliant work.” In addition, internationally acclaimed Kenyan artist Wangechi Mutu has created an original image which will serve as the visual representation of the week-long festival.
